Defence Headquarters Debunks Claims of Terrorist Takeover in Niger State Military Zone

The Defence Headquarters has refuted recent reports alleging that bandits have taken over the Nigerian Army’s Military Training Area in Kotangora, Niger State.

Responding to statements attributed to the Niger State House of Assembly, Defence Headquarters clarified that these claims are “incorrect and do not reflect the realities on the ground.”

A statement signed by the Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, emphasised that while troops have encountered terrorist elements in the region, no portion of the training area has fallen under their control.

He said the military continues to conduct clearance operations, effectively limiting terrorist movements and maintaining security.

The Defence Headquarters also stressed that their operations in Niger State are targeted specifically at terrorist groups, with a commitment to eliminating these threats.

Collaborating with the Niger State Government, the military assured citizens of its unwavering focus on enhancing security across the region.

The Defence Headquarters encouraged the public to rely on verified information and assured citizens that the armed forces are steadfast in protecting the nation’s sovereignty and ensuring peace.
