MPs Call for Swift Implementation as ECOWAS Parliament Adopts 2025 Budget

Members og the ECOWAS Parliament have called for swift and full execution of the 2025 draft budget, totaling UA 23,371,350, as presented by the Committee on Administration, Finance, and Budget during the Third Extraordinary Session in Lomé, Togo.

The budget, reflecting a 0.6% increase from 2024, prioritises programmes, with 64.71% of funds allocated to them.

The lawmakers stressed the importance of member states remitting the Community Levy, which funds nearly 100% of the budget.

Hon. Ibrahima Sall who represented the chair of the finance Committee, Hon. Benjamin Kalu noted that adequate resources are essential to addressing regional challenges.

Hon. Edwin Snowe and Hon. Veronica Cessay called for stronger mechanisms to ensure compliance and the prioritisation of projects for women and girls.

The parliament also reaffirmed the need for the 2025-2027 budget to meet ECOWAS’s strategic goals of peace, integration, and sustainable development.
