NTUA To Induct 30 New Members Later In The Year

30 new Umpires are expected to be formally inducted as members of the Nigeria Tennis Umpires Association, NTUA, following their successful conclusion of the ITF National Officiating School in Abuja.

The 2024 ITF National Officiating School organised by the Nigeria Tennis Federation in collaboration with the International Tennis Federation I.T.F and Nigeria Tennis Umpires Association N. T. U. A, is an entry point into tennis officiating in Nigeria.

In his message to the assembly, delivered by the Federation’s Secretary General Shammah Makpa, the President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation, Engr. Ifedayo Akindoju congratulated the new Umpires for scaling through, and enjoined them to uphold the highest level of integrity and professionalism in the discharge of their officiating career.

The Acting Chairman of NTUA, Rose Abu, on her part, welcomed the officials into the Association’s family and advised them to keep working hard so as to excel.

According to the Acting Chairman of NTUA, this is just the first step, urging them not to relax but put into use all that they have learnt from the school.

She reminded them that with great commitment and hardwork, they will make it in tennis officiating.

The Tutors at the school, a Bronze Badge Chair Umpire and ITF Tutor, Saidu Musa Bala and the country’s Officiating Manager and White Badge Chair Umpire, Kehinde Ijaola, on behalf of the International Tennis Federation, ITF, encouraged the officials to make good use of the opportunity and make name for themselves, the Association and Nigeria as a whole.

The officiating school which held from 2nd-5th of June 2024, covered both class work, practicals as well as examination sessions that focused on the knowledge and proper application of various aspects of the rules of tennis in officiating.

A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, of NTUA, Chukwunonso Nwabueze, the 30 new Umpires from across the country are expected to be formally inducted as members of the Association during its Annual General Meeting later this year in Abuja
