INEC Urges Media Stations To Submit Application For Accreditation For Edo, Ondo States’ Elections

Media organizations have been asked to submit their application for accreditation to enable the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, prepare and address all concerns appropriately for the Edo and Ondo States governorship elections.

The Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who made the call at the second quarterly consultative meeting with media executives in Abuja, said the media as part of its constitutional role, participate actively in election day activities.

For this, the Chairman said it is imperative for media houses particularly in states to make adequate and timely preparations for personnel assigned to cover the elections at state and local government levels to promote accountability and fairness

He also disclosed that there will be bye-elections, three State Assembly constituencies and one Federal Constituency following vacancies in four states of the Federation as a result of the death or resignation of members.

Responding, the National President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Chris Isiguzo represented by the National Secretary, Chudi Achike, while pledging his support to credible elections, urged the commission to uphold the nation’s democracy for the wellbeing of citizens.
