Focus: Unwavering Efforts Of Nigerian Military To Restore Peace In Troubled Parts Of Nigeria

Following notable and multiple security challenges confronting Nigeria according to regions, the Armed Forces of Nigeria has in the past 13 years, been engaged in counter-terrorism and counter insurgency operations in different parts of the country.

In the South East, it is Operation Udoka, Operation Delta Safe mans the South South region, while in the North West it is operation Hadarin Daji.

Operation Hadin Kai is visible in the North-east.

Our Abuja Bureau Chief, Princess-Ekwi Ajide, was one of the Defence Correspondents that visited Maiduguri, headquarters of Operation Hadin Kai to get first hand information on the success, challenges, or otherwise of the operations in the region.

These theatre of operations with continuous support from the Naval and Air components, have been in the forefront and unwavering in their efforts to restore peace in the troubled areas.

According to the theatre commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Wahid Shaibu, some of their notable success story is the recommencement of WAEC centres and NYSC camps in Borno State after 12 years of inactivity there owing to insurgency.

He also counted the capture of communities taken over by terrorists, return of indigenes displaced by insurgency and rehabilitation and integration of repentant terrorists as some of the expoits of the theatre.

The Acting Coordinator, Joint Intelligence Fusion Centre, Colonel Wasiu Adegoke, on his part, said some of the non kinetic activities of the theatre that endeared them to the people include periodically organising quizzes and sports competitions, protection of National critical infrastructure and conducting medical outreaches.

He revealed that in the ongoing clearance operations, they established areas for the convergence of women, children and the aged who were caught up in the operations areas as a means of giving them initial palliatives before their evacuation to safe areas.

The leader of the media delegation, Group Captain Ibrahim Bukar, in his speech, said the media tour of military operations will be on quarterly basis to furnish journalists with the requisite information for impactful reportage.

The media team toured different parts of the theatre including Chabol, Muna, Molai and Konduga where they interacted with locals, surrendered and repentant terrorists as well as rescued chibok girls.
