FG To Support Global Partnership For Education Programmes To Accelerate Growth

Federal Government of Nigeria says it is poised to support the Global Partnership For Education (GPE) lrogrammes in the country so as to achieve accelerated growth in the sector.

The Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, disclosed this recently in his office in Abuja when he met with Officials of the Global Partnership for Education led by the Senior Education Specialist and Country Team Lead, Morten Sisgaard of the Republic of Denmark.

Dr. Sununu said the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led Administration has a clear vision of what it wants to achieve in the education sector, which include, the provision of qualitative, accessible and affordable education for all Nigerians.

According to him, Government is thinking outside the box to deliver on its promises to the sector as the present administration has the political will and resolve to make positive impact across the sector.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Sisgaard, told the Minister that the GPE already has some key programmes in Nigeria, including a 100M USD Partnership project (2015 – 2020) aimed at improving Access & Quality Basic Education in Kastina, Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa and Sokoto States.

According to Sisgaard, other peojects include COVID-19 response grant of 15m USD and a 20m USD accelerated funding, targeted at delivering equitable programming to address emerging challenges in delivering quality education in fragile States of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.

He also counted other projects to include a 125M USD Education sector implementation grant for transforming education systems at state level, $15.4m USD for reaching out of School children in Kaduna State and a 117.59M USD for system Transformation Grant among others.

A statement signed by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Ben Bem Goong said those who accompanied Sigsaard on the visit included the Senior Education Advisor at the British High Commision in Abuja, Mr. Ian Attfield and a Senior Economist and Education Specialist at the World Bank, Dilip Parajuli.
