The Nigeria Police Imo State Command, has nabbed a police inspector caught assaulting a gentleman in a viral video.
The police man in the viral video was seen slapping and abusing the young man in a checkpoint while some persons inside a car parked by the side of the road watched on.
In a press release signed by the police public relations officer, ASP Henry Okoye and made available to Newsmen, it reads as follows: ” the attention of the Imo state police command has been drawn to a viral video with the caption,” Nigeria Police can never be your friend especially the ones in Owerri where a police inspector alleged to be serving in Imo state was seen forcefully removing the cap of a young man and slapping him severally on his face.
The commissioner of police, Imo state, CP Mohammed Barde, psc(+), condemns the irritating act in totality as it highly contradicts the professional ethics and code of conduct of the force. The Nigeria Police force is highly disciplined organization and will never tolerate the misconduct of the officer seen in the video. To this effect, the CP has mandated the monitoring team to investigate and identity the officer for necessary disciplinary action. More so, the victim is encouraged to call the PPRO Imo on 08148024755 or come to the PPR department Owerri and make his complaint.

It should be recalled that many police officers at the checkpoints have formed the habit of assaulting young men while carrying out their duties. This action of the CP Imo state will serve as deterrent to others.
Okoye said the officer has been arrested and he’s currently undergoing orderly trial and necessary disciplinary actions will be taken against him, adding that the incident happened in Owerri state capital and the officer is serving here too.
