Coup: ECOWAS Parliament sets Up 12 Man Mediation Committee on Niger

Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, has set up a 12 man mediation committee to delve into resolving the current political crisis in Niger Republic and find a sustainable solution
The Committee, which is to play a parliamentary diplomacy role to help mediate and find an end to the Niger crises was set up during a virtual extraordinary session yesterday and is to be headed by the first Deputy Speaker, Honourable Ahmed Idris Wase, as chairman.
The committee, is also, mandated to interface with the military juntas in Guinea, Mali, and Burkina Faso so as to accelerate the return to democratic rule in the West African countries and is as well expected to meet the Chair of the ECOWAS Authority, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, before their visit to Niger.
The Parliamentarians were divided on whether to use military intervention in Niger or not as many of them suggested diplomacy over military action.
They also called for ease of the sanctions which they believe is making the people suffer and suggested that the sanctions should be limited to the junta.
The Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Sidie Tunis, appealed to the Parliamentarians to be supportive of efforts of the ECOWAS Heads of states and to reflect such in their resoultion.
