INEC Presents Certificate Of Return To Governor Finitri

The Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC has presented Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State a certificate of return after his re-election in a dramatic supplementary election on April 15.
Certificates of return were presented to Fintiri and his deputy, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja, by INEC National Commissioner for North-East, Baba Billa.
Speaking after collecting the certificate of return, Fintiri, said his ordeal should serve as lessons to stakeholders in the electoral process so that they can continue to build on the electoral process and on the nation’s democracy.
According to him, it is unfortunate that they had to go through a lot to arrive at the moment saying that this could have been concluded since the 18th of March but owing to the unfortunate attitude of some individuals, it had to drag this long for them to be here.
He eulogised the INEC, for what he called showcasing uncommon traits and redeeming themselves and the whole process, thereby, giving Nigerians cause to celebrate democracy.
Governor Finitri thanked Nigerians and the international community for standing up for democracy.
It will be recalled that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would have lost in the election even though its candidate, Fintiri, garnered 430,861 votes to defeat his closest rival, Aisha Dahiru-Binani of the All Progressive Congress (APC) who scored 398,788 votes.
INEC had on Sunday suspended collation of the election results after the Resident Electoral Commission (REC) for Adamawa state, Hudu Ari, declared Binani winner while the process was still ongoing.
The Commission, has since suspended the erring REC and declared Fintiri winner of the Adamawa governorship supplementary election on Tuesday.
