DHQ Seeks Journalists’ Cooperation To Promote Peace

The media have been urged to be more professional in discharging their duties, especially on matters concerning national security.
The Acting Director, Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau who made the call when he officially took over as Director, Defence Information in Abuja, appreciated the media for continually supporting the Armed forces in National development.
He cautioned that as the general election is around the corner media should be wary about reporting anything that will affect the morale of troops and the credibility of the Armed Forces as they work towards supporting other government agencies to achieve peaceful and credible operations across the country.
General Gusau, noted the appointment of the outgoing Director of Defence Information, Major General Jimmy Akpor, as the Director Personnel Services; Nigerian Army Headquarters is a well deserved honour and implored the media to accord him the same respect given to the former Director.
Earlier, the outgoing Director of Defence Information, Major General Jimmy Akpor, who is now the Director of Personnel Services, Nigerian Army Headquarters, noted that there is an understanding between the military and the media of what their responsibilities are.
According to him, the responsibilities of the media is to inform, educate and enlighten the society so as to improve their lives and make informed decisions.
General Akpor noted that as the media have a role to play in creating a peaceful environment for all citizens to aspire to and live their dreams, the Armed Forces of Nigeria as a group has done great exploits in restoring the peace especially in the North East among other achievements due to the dogged efforts of the military.
He also reechoed the need for the media to accord the same respect and assistance to the new Acting Director Defence Information.
