Federal Government of Nigeria has asked the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, to utilise Science, Technology and Innovation, STI, in solving the major challenge confronting the region which is the socioeconomic development problem of the people.
The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Adeleke Mamora, gave the advice at the closing ceremony of the maiden edition of African Research and Innovation Forum (FARI) 2022 in Abuja.
He challenged ECOWAS to solve local problems using STI so as to build a better society for socio-economic development.
According to the Minister it is about doing things better, faster and greater, so as to achieve results and Africa cannot afford to be left behind.
Dr. Mamora charged ECOWAS to challenge Itself and to face those challenges squarely as STI is at the crux of major development of nations and a dominant topic of deliberation and consideration for any well meaning government.
He noted that Nigeria has taken the first big step by hosting the maiden edition of FARI and any other ECOWAS nation hosting the next edition should improve on the concept so it would get better and bigger in order to encourage African Research and Innovation.
There were presentation of FARI certificates and awards in various categories while President Muhammadu Buhari was honoured with ECOWAS Award of Recognition for hosting the maiden edition of FARI.
The best Start-up at the FARI conference went home with a 25, 000 dollars cash prize.
