On the Islamic Calendar Eid el Kabir also called Eid al Adha, meaning the feast of sacrifice remains one of the most important holidays.
It is celebrated on the tenth day of the Muslim lunar month of Dhul Hijja, and its festivities continue for four days to reenact the sacrifice of Ibrahim, who according to the Quran, intended using his son Ishmael for sacrifice to Allah.
Muslims usually garbbed in new clothes gather for prayers at mosques or in open areas after which families go home to eat their festive together
An animal of some kind especially rams are usually sacrificed, if the family can afford to pay for it.
According to Ustazz Suleiman Kamaldeeen, muslims slaughter animals during celebrations in recognition of the fact that if Allah had not given Prophet Ibrahim a ram for sacrifice in place of his son Ishmael, human beings may have been used for sacrifice.
He said while slaughtering the animal you must say a prayer and ensure the soul of the animal has departed fully to avoid pains and urged all those celebrating to do so following the dictates of of the Quran.
For the Sarki of Bwari, Awwal Musa Ijakoro, who decried the security situation in the country, noted the celebration will bring peace and unity to the country.
Alhaja Babatunde Shakirat, said the celebration meat is not supposed to last beyond the celebration hence it is shared with the poor, guests and make merry with family members.
For the Aremu children, Abdulahi and Abdulraman the celebration is a day for merriment hence they will play with their friends and eat non stop.
