The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it has not audited campaign finances of political parties since 2018.
The Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this at an interactive meeting with the electorates in Abuja.
Professor Yakubu said, the Commission was supposed to publish such audits in several national dailies and and submit report to the National Assembly but could not do it in 2018 because it was an election year, followed by COVID-19 which crippled everything.
He however stressed that the Commission has already engaged the services of firms to audit the accounts and would soon publish for Nigerians.
According to him, there is a difference between party finance and individual candidate expenditure, saying that political parties are required to submit their expenses 6 months after election; so the Commission will get back to Nigerians soon.
