As a Senatorial Zone thirsty of accelerated development and quality leadership, the elders of Okigwe Senatorial Zone popularly known as Imo North under the auspices of Okigwe Elders Forum/Okigwe Global Forum has advanced plans to soon host an all encompassing mega summit aimed at charting a new course of infrastructural development and strategic leadership positioning for the area.
HRH Eze Dr. Oliver Ohanwe, the Obi gburu gburu of Ihim ancient kingdom and Chairman of the Forum disclosed this to news men in Okigwe shortly after the Forum rose from a crucial meeting christened- Awakening Okigwe.
The Forum expressed satisfaction on the level of infrastructural development in the state and commended the Shared Prosperity and 3 R administrative mantra of Governor Hope Uzodimma in expediting actions for the speedy and efficient execution of the ongoing Owerri – Okigwe major express route.
The Forum furthermore applauded Chief Tony Chukwu and His Excellency Chief Ikedi Ohakim whom they described as their patriotic and illustrious sons, they passionately appealed to them on the need for them to maximize their close relationship with the Governor and attract more dividends of democracy to the area.
The Forum which covers six Local government areas of the State that includes Okigwe Municipal Council, Onuimo,Obowo, Isiala Mbano, Ehime Mbano and Ihitte Uboma also took a comprehensive analysis of the area in terms of infrastructural development and strategic leadership positioning.
They critically observed that the area has been a product of socioeconomic neglects by previous administrators of the state and called all the tiers of government as a matter of equity and social justice to henceforth gives priority attention to the senatorial zone so as to meet up with pace of developments already existing in other senatorial areas in the state and Nigeria at large.
To demonstrate its seriousness in her Clarion calls for an accelerated socioeconomic development of the senatorial area, Eze Ohanwe popularly known as Obi gburu gburu of Igboland passionately appealed to wealthy sons and daughters of the area to think home in terms of developmental opportunities like industrialization and establishment of businesses.
The Forum expressed dismay that up to date, Okigwe Municipal Council is the only province created by the colonial masters that has been neglected in terms of development, being a state capital and reiterated the need for all to put their hands together in fast tracking development of the area.
Among the eminent sons of the area that honoured the well attended meeting are His Excellency Chief Ikedi Ohakim, Chief Tony Chukwu, Prof. Chiedozie Eze, Rt Hon. Ike Ibe, Prof. O. C Nwebo, Prof Dede Konkwo, Dr. Mike C. Anyaeze, Barr. Ifeanyi Agwu, Chief Victor Mbagwu and Chief Paul Okonkwo,
Others include Dr. Ezechi Chukwu,Chief Celestine Iwuagwu ( Ikukundu Ndi Igbo) and Prince Chidi Ohanwe who represented the diasporas.
