The newly appointed Archbishop of Owerri, Most Rev. Lucius Ugorji, has emerged the new President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, CBCN.
He is taking over from Most Rev. Augustine Obiora Akubeze of Benin Diocese whose four year tenure just elapsed.
Archbishop Ugorji, is to be assisted by Archbishop Matthew Ndagoso of Kaduna Archdiocese as the Vice President, Bishop Donatus Ogun, OSA, of Uromi Diocese is the new CBCN Secretary while Bishop Peter Kayode Odetoyinbo of Abeokuta Diocese was the Assistant Secretary.
Other Bishops were also elected to oversee various departments and units of the Catholic Secretariat and the new officers are expected to lead the Conference for the next four years.
It will be recalled, that Archbishop Ugorji was formerly the Vice President of the Bishops Conference in the past administration.
