NAWOJ Rallies Support For Flamingos Demands World Cup Glory

For millions of Nigerian girls watching their compatriots make history on the football pitch, the Flamingos’ journey to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final is more than a sporting achievement.

It is proof that young Nigerian women can compete, break barriers and conquer the world.

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has hailed the team’s historic qualification for the final, urging the players to defeat Japan and bring the coveted trophy home.

NAWOJ National Chairperson, Hajia Aisha Ibrahim, described the Flamingos’ remarkable run as a moment of national pride and inspiration to girls and women across the country.

In a congratulatory statement dated November 6, 2026, Ibrahim praised the players, coaching staff and technical crew for their resilience, discipline, teamwork and commitment.

She particularly commended Head Coach Hakeem Busari and his technical crew for the leadership and tactical direction that have taken the young Nigerian side to the final.

With Japan standing between Nigeria and the ultimate prize, the NAWOJ chairperson urged the players to remain focused and approach the decisive encounter with confidence and determination.

“An entire nation is standing firmly behind you. You have made Nigeria proud, and we believe you have what it takes to go all the way,” she said.

Ibrahim added that the team’s achievement goes beyond football, describing it as a powerful demonstration of the potential of Nigerian girls when given opportunities to excel.

She called for increased investment in grassroots sports development, particularly women’s football, while urging parents, government institutions and other stakeholders to support emerging female talents.

NAWOJ also appealed to Nigerians, corporate organisations and sports enthusiasts to rally behind the Flamingos as they prepare for the final.

The association expressed confidence that the team would overcome Japan, lift the trophy and return home with a historic victory.

“Go, girls! Make history. Bring the Cup Home!” the statement declared.

The statement was signed by the National Chairperson, Hajia Aisha Ibrahim, Chairperson, and National Secretary of NAWOJ, Comrade Wasilah Ladan.
