Kane’s Golden Night: England Star Wins 2026 Ballon d’Or

For years, Harry Kane has chased football’s biggest individual prize. On Monday night in London, the England captain finally reached the summit, winning the 2026 Men’s Ballon d’Or after a standout season with Bayern Munich.

Kane’s goalscoring performances during the 2025/2026 campaign earned him the prestigious honour at a ceremony held at the London Palladium, placing him among the select group of English footballers to have won the award.

His triumph adds another major milestone to a career built on consistent goalscoring and leadership, and makes him the latest Englishman to claim the prize since Michael Owen won it in 2001.

The ceremony celebrated achievements across men’s and women’s football, with Spanish midfielder Alexia Putellas taking the Women’s Ballon d’Or following an impressive season with Barcelona before her move to English side London City Lionesses in July.

Barcelona also celebrated the emergence of young talent, with Lamine Yamal winning the Men’s Young Talent of the Year award, while Spain international Vicky Lopez claimed the women’s prize.

Spain manager Luis de la Fuente was named Men’s Coach of the Year, while Barcelona coach Pere Romeu received the Women’s Coach of the Year award.

Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon won the Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year honour, with Barcelona’s Cata Coll taking the women’s award.

At club level, Paris Saint-Germain won the Men’s Club of the Year award, while Barcelona Femení claimed the women’s title, reflecting their achievements during the 2025/2026 season.

Saka honoured for humanitarian work

Beyond the goals and trophies, Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka received the Socrates Award in recognition of his charitable work with BigShoe, an organisation that provides medical assistance to children in need.

Nigerian music star Burna Boy presented the award after speaking about his efforts to support football development in Nigeria through his football academy.

The Socrates Award recognises footballers who use their influence and resources to improve lives through humanitarian work.

Kane’s successful evening also included the Men’s Gerd Müller Trophy, awarded for outstanding goalscoring achievements, while Charlyn Corral received the Women’s Gerd Müller Trophy.

The double underlined Kane’s scoring credentials, as he joined the evening’s leading winners in a ceremony that celebrated excellence, emerging talent and the wider social impact of football.

For Kane, however, the headline achievement was clear: the England captain had secured one of the sport’s most coveted individual honours.
