Ikpeazu Seeks Stronger Nigeria-Spain Partnership As Nigeria Marks 66th Independence
Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary offers an opportunity to deepen economic ties with Spain, particularly in renewable energy, infrastructure, agriculture, technology and the creative industries, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, has said.
Ikpeazu made the call in Madrid while addressing Nigerians and friends of Nigeria at an event marking the country’s Independence Day.
He said Nigeria valued Spain’s partnership and would continue to create opportunities for investment and business-to-business partnerships to support the country’s development.
The ambassador also highlighted the contributions of Spanish companies, including GB Foods, to Nigeria’s economy, while noting the important role of Nigerians living in Spain in strengthening relations between both countries.
Ikpeazu described the relationship between Nigeria and Spain as one characterised by mutual respect, dialogue and growing cooperation in trade, investment, education, culture and people-to-people exchanges.
He urged Nigerians in Spain, particularly students, professionals and entrepreneurs, to remain united, law-abiding and committed to projecting the country positively.
On Nigeria’s domestic outlook, the ambassador said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was pursuing reforms aimed at economic diversification, improved governance and inclusive growth.
“We are not satisfied with the present economic realities, but we are making progress as a people,” he said, stressing the government’s determination to harness the energy of Nigerian youths and the country’s diversity to build a more prosperous and secure future.
Ikpeazu also paid tribute to Nigeria’s nationalists and patriots whose sacrifices secured independence in 1960, saying nation-building remained a continuous responsibility requiring resilience, innovation and collective effort.
He called on Nigerians to renew their commitment to building a peaceful, prosperous and respected nation as the country marked 66 years of independence.
