TCN Restores Kainji-Birnin Kebbi 330kV Line After 24-Day Outage
The long wait for restoration of a key electricity transmission link serving parts of north-western Nigeria has ended, with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) returning the 330kV Kainji-Birnin Kebbi transmission line to service.
The line was restored at 5:24 p.m. on 1 October 2026, nearly four weeks after it was taken out of service following the collapse of Tower 367 at Yauri on 7 September.
Rather than rebuild the collapsed tower immediately, TCN deployed an Emergency Restoration System (ERS) tower at the site, allowing the transmission line to be brought back into operation while the damaged infrastructure was addressed.
According to TCN, the restoration involved dismantling and decommissioning the collapsed tower, preparing and aligning the conductors and skywire, erecting the ERS tower and completing associated safety works.
The company said its engineers worked round the clock to complete the operation and restore the line as quickly and safely as possible.
The restoration is expected to strengthen transmission capacity and reliability in areas affected by the outage.
TCN thanked electricity consumers for their patience during the disruption and reiterated its commitment to maintaining a stable and reliable national transmission network.
