Cajaah Estate Residents Fix Bad Road After Repeated Appeals To FCT, AMAC Authorities
Residents of Cajaah Estate, Orozo, Abuja, have begun repairing their access road with personal contributions after repeated appeals to the FCT Administration and Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) failed to secure intervention.
The road, which links the estate to Treasury Academy Road along the Nyanya-Karshi route, has deteriorated badly, leaving motorists to navigate deep potholes and damaged sections, particularly during the rainy season.
Chairman of Cajaah Estate, Kenneth Eigbedion, said the poor road had caused serious hardship for residents and increased the cost of maintaining their vehicles.
Eigbedion said residents had appealed to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and AMAC Chairman Christopher Zakka Maikalangu to rehabilitate the road, but no concrete intervention had followed.
He said the residents had therefore decided to pool their resources and commence temporary repairs to make the road passable.
“Since the Minister and the AMAC Chairman have both abandoned us, we have had no option but to resort to self-help,” Eigbedion said.
He added that the residents were not asking government to abandon its responsibility, stressing that the self-help project was only a temporary measure to ease the hardship caused by the road.
Eigbedion appealed for comprehensive rehabilitation of the road, saying a permanent government intervention would ease the burden on residents and reduce damage to vehicles.
The development highlights the growing reliance on community-led efforts to address infrastructure gaps in parts of the FCT, even as residents continue to seek government intervention.
