NNL Sets N20m Guarantee, Strict Licensing Rules For 2026/27 Season
The Nigeria National League (NNL) has tightened entry requirements for clubs ahead of the 2026/2027 season, making a N20 million guarantee and full compliance with club licensing regulations mandatory for participation.
The league’s Chief Operating Officer, Danlami Alanana, said the requirements had been communicated to all 34 participating clubs, with registration already underway.
Under the new conditions, clubs must provide evidence that they owe no outstanding sign-on fees, salaries or allowances to players and coaches.
Clubs with unresolved financial disputes must obtain clearance from the NFF Arbitration Committee before they can register.
They are also required to submit signed contracts for players and officials and settle any outstanding fines, cautions and registration fees owed to the NNL from previous seasons.
Other mandatory requirements include CAC incorporation documents, details of shareholders and transparent ownership structures, as well as approved home grounds, functional dressing rooms, medical facilities and valid insurance for players and officials.
Clubs must also have qualified coaches holding the appropriate CAF licences.
The NNL warned that clubs that fail to meet the requirements by the registration deadline will be barred from the 2026/2027 season.
The new season is scheduled to kick off on 31 October 2026, with four clubs, one from each conference, earning promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
