UN, Nigeria Begin Talks On New Five-Year Plan To Strengthen Child Welfare
Nigeria and the United Nations have begun consultations on a new five-year programme aimed at strengthening systems that protect and improve the lives of children and young people across the country.
The consultation is shaping the Federal Government of Nigeria-UNICEF Country Programme Document for 2028–2032, alongside the next UN Nigeria Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.
Speaking on behalf of the UN Resident Coordinator, WHO Representative in Nigeria, Dr Pavel Ursu, stressed the need for a coordinated UN approach that aligns with Nigeria’s priorities and delivers measurable results for children.
The engagement brought together UNICEF Nigeria, government leaders, UN agencies and development partners to identify priorities across health and nutrition, education, child protection and early childhood development.
As a member of the UN Country Team, the World Health Organisation is expected to contribute technical expertise in evidence-based health policies, primary healthcare, maternal and newborn care, and immunisation.
The partners said the goal is to build stronger systems that give every Nigerian child a better chance to grow, learn and thrive.
