Nigeria Eyes India’s Tech, Youth Model At BRICS Summit
The partnership between Nigeria and India is taking on a new focus as Abuja looks to tap India’s technology and youth-development experience to drive economic growth.
Nigeria is set to leverage India’s experience in technology, artificial intelligence and youth engagement as Vice President Kashim Shettima leads the country’s delegation to the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is expected to use the summit to advance Nigeria’s interests in trade, investment, agriculture, technology, manufacturing and industrial development.
Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, said India’s success in deploying technology to engage its youthful population offered important lessons for Nigeria.
She identified agriculture, the digital economy, artificial intelligence and women’s participation in technology as key areas where Nigeria could benefit from India’s experience.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu said Nigeria was determined to harness India’s expertise, particularly its ability to engage young people, to promote innovation, economic growth and inclusive development.
Shettima is accompanied by the ministers of Foreign Affairs; Industry, Trade and Investment; Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy; and Environment.
Nigeria became a BRICS partner country in January 2025, giving it a platform to strengthen South-South cooperation and expand economic and diplomatic ties with major emerging economies.
