TCN Foils Night Theft Attempt At Bauchi Power Substation, Recovers Stolen Equipment
A swift response by security personnel has once again highlighted the growing need to protect Nigeria’s critical power infrastructure from vandalism and sabotage.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says it foiled an attempted theft at its 330/132kV transmission substation in Bauchi on the night of July 24, after security guards intercepted suspected vandals trying to remove vital transmission tower components.
According to TCN, the suspects fled when they spotted the guards, leaving behind 12 transmission tower angle irons, a heavy-duty metal measuring scale and a white pickup truck believed to have been used in the operation.
The recovered items and vehicle have been handed over to the Railway Division Police Station in Bauchi for further investigation.
TCN confirmed that no equipment was successfully stolen and no injuries were recorded during the incident.
The company praised the vigilance of its security team for preventing damage to critical electricity infrastructure and urged residents of host communities to promptly report suspicious activities around power installations to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.
