“Give Us CP Like Orutugu”, Soludo Begs IGP As Orutugu Becomes AIG

The reward for hard work, they say, is more work. This is the case for Anambra’s immediate past Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, who has been elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).
Owing to his enviable strides through community policing, Governor Chukwuma Soludo is calling for a community policing-focused replacement.
Speaking at the decoration of AIG Orutugu and 12 other new AIGs and 17 Commissioners of Police in Abuja, Soludo, represented by Engr. Ken Ekwemigo, urged the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to appoint a Commissioner of Police committed to community policing in Anambra.
He described Orutugu as a lion whose voice alone sends fear down the spines of criminal elements, saying that AIG Orutugu’s sojourn in Anambra as a Commissioner of Police sent many hoodlums packing.
Decorating the promoted officers, IGP Disu described the new ranks as a reward for merit and sacrifice, urging the senior officers to lead with integrity, reject corruption and abuse of office, and prioritise the welfare of personnel under their command.
He warned against corruption, abuse of office and misconduct, emphasising that a modern, intelligence-led and technology-driven police force must translate into safer communities and stronger public confidence.
He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Police Service Commission and the families of the promoted officers for their support, urging the new AIGs and CPs to wear their ranks with humility and inspire the next generation of police leaders.
Speaking after his decoration, AIG Ikioye Orutugu thanked God for granting him the privilege of attaining the new rank in good health regardless of the number of years.
He encouraged new officers to be focused, promote the ethics of the job and wait on God
