PCRC, Police Deepen Partnership To Strengthen Community Policing, Safe Schools Initiative
Nigeria’s drive to strengthen community policing received a fresh boost as the Nigeria Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) and the Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed their commitment to closer collaboration, with renewed focus on protecting schools and enhancing public trust.
During an official visit to the PCRC National Secretariat in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu, praised the committee’s newly launched Safe Schools Initiative and pledged the Nigeria Police Force’s full support for the programme and other PCRC activities.
Iniedu commended the PCRC for its resilience and long-standing contribution to policing in Nigeria, describing the Safe Schools Initiative as a timely intervention that aligns with the Force’s commitment to securing learning environments.
He also lauded the PCRC National Chairman, Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, for his dedication to supporting the Police.
Earlier, Olaniyan announced plans to recruit 10,000 volunteers nationwide to work with the Police and community leaders in safeguarding schools, while also supporting the installation of CCTV cameras in vulnerable communities.
He added that the committee’s new national headquarters, expected to be commissioned in December, would be named after the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, in recognition of his support for community policing.
A statement by the PCRC Director of Global Communications and Media Relations, Olayemi Esan, said the visit underscored the shared resolve of the Nigeria Police Force and the PCRC to deepen community policing, improve school safety and strengthen public confidence through sustained collaboration.
