TCN Repairs Zaria-Funtua Transmission Line Without Disrupting Power Supply
Nigeria’s electricity transmission infrastructure has received a maintenance boost as engineers successfully repaired critical components of the Zaria-Funtua 132kV transmission line without interrupting bulk power supply.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said its Kaduna Region successfully carried out the live-line maintenance exercise from 4 to 7 July 2026.
According to TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the exercise involved replacing damaged glass disc insulators on eight transmission towers with a combination of polymer and glass disc insulators to improve the integrity and reliability of the line.
The maintenance was conducted while the transmission line remained energised, eliminating the need for a planned outage and ensuring uninterrupted bulk electricity transmission throughout the exercise.
TCN said the successful operation demonstrated its commitment to deploying modern maintenance techniques to improve the safety, reliability and efficiency of Nigeria’s electricity transmission network.
