Swift coordination between police, local vigilantes and hunters has led to the rescue of 11 kidnapped farmers in Edo State, dealing a setback to kidnappers operating in the area.
Eleven kidnapped victims have been rescued unharmed by operatives of the Edo State Police Command following a gun battle with suspected kidnappers in Ogbido Community, Iyahmo.
The victims, comprising nine men and two women, were abducted from their farms on 25 June.
Acting on a distress call, operatives of the Iyahmo Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer and supported by local vigilantes and hunters, launched a rescue operation into the surrounding forest.
During the operation, the team engaged the kidnappers in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
The suspects reportedly fled into the forest after abandoning their captives in the face of superior police firepower.
The rescued victims were taken to hospital for medical examination before being reunited with their families, while security operatives have intensified efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Commending the bravery of the police operatives, vigilantes and hunters, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support the fight against crime.
