India, African Union Postpone Fourth India-Africa Forum Summit Over Emerging Health Concerns
Amid growing concerns over an evolving health situation in parts of Africa, the Government of India and the African Union have agreed to postpone the Fourth India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS IV), originally scheduled to hold in New Delhi from 28 to 31 May 2026.
In a joint press release issued on Thursday, both sides said the decision followed consultations between the Government of India, the Chairperson of the African Union, and the African Union Commission, with a focus on ensuring full participation of African leaders and stakeholders at the summit.
The statement noted that India and the African Union had exchanged views on the emerging public health situation and reaffirmed the need for continued cooperation in strengthening health preparedness and response capacities across Africa, particularly through support for the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention and national health institutions.
India also expressed solidarity with African countries and pledged readiness to support Africa-led efforts aimed at addressing the evolving health challenge on the continent.
According to the statement, new dates for the summit and associated meetings would be announced after further consultations between both parties.
Despite the postponement, India and Africa reaffirmed their longstanding partnership anchored on solidarity, mutual respect, South-South cooperation, peace, development, and shared prosperity.
