STN Gets NCC Licence, Targets Nigeria’s Telecoms Market

Swift Telephone Network Limited (STN) has secured a Unified Access Service Licence (UASL) from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), paving the way for the company to operate as a full-service telecommunications provider in Nigeria.

The licence authorises STN to provide voice, data and access services, including fixed and mobile telecommunications services, across the country.

Chief Executive Officer of STN, Oluwole Adetuyi, described the licence as a new chapter for the company, which began as a telephone call service before evolving into an independent Nigerian telecommunications operator.

“This UASL is not just a licence. It is a new chapter,” Adetuyi said, adding that the company intends to build digital infrastructure “in Nigeria, for Nigeria”.

STN said its expansion will focus on developing telecommunications infrastructure, training Nigerian engineers and digital professionals, creating jobs and strengthening partnerships with local service providers, contractors and vendors.

The company also plans to work with global technology partners to deepen indigenous technical capacity and expand connectivity to underserved communities.

Director, Legal and Regulatory Services, Yetunde Okafor, said STN would soon unveil strategic partnerships, infrastructure rollout plans and programmes for investors and other stakeholders as it prepares to commence commercial operations under the UASL.

The company said its ambition is to contribute to the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy by increasing local participation and investment across the telecommunications value chain.
