Zamfara: Troops Foil Two Kidnappings, Rescue 10 Victims
Timely military intervention has prevented two separate kidnapping operations in Zamfara State, with troops rescuing 10 victims and forcing the attackers to flee.
Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, carried out the operations on September 27 during ongoing clearance operations across the state.
On the Tsafe-Funtua Road, troops responding to gunfire around the Kwanoni axis of Tsafe Local Government Area engaged the attackers in a brief exchange of fire, forcing them to abandon the operation and escape.
The attackers had set a commercial vehicle ablaze before the troops arrived.
Six people were subsequently rescued after another vehicle lost control during the attack, while troops secured the highway and restored safe passage.
In a separate intelligence-led operation at Kade Daba Village in Kanoma District, Maru LGA, troops confronted kidnappers and forced them to abandon their captives.
Three victims were rescued immediately, while a follow-up search led to the recovery of another, bringing the total from the operation to four.
The military said the rescued victims are receiving necessary care and assessment before being reunited with their families.
The operations highlight the role of timely intelligence, rapid response and sustained military presence in disrupting kidnapping activities and protecting travellers and communities across Zamfara.
