Army Arrests Three Suspected Terrorists With ₦2.7m Ransom In Katsina
The arrest of three suspected terrorists carrying ₦2.7 million in ransom money has shed light on the network of couriers and intermediaries allegedly used to move funds and communication devices to criminal groups in Katsina State.
Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 35 Battalion, deployed at FOB Faskari, intercepted the suspects at about 11:30 a.m. on Thursday while they were travelling on a motorcycle in Faskari Local Government Area.
The Army identified them as Habibu Hamza, 35; Inusa Alhaji Iliya, 15; and Umar Alhaji Isihu, 16.
According to preliminary interrogation, the trio were allegedly taking the ransom and three mobile phones to two individuals identified as Alhaji Gadani and Zailani Shu’ibu, for onward delivery to a suspected terror kingpin.
The recovered items comprised ₦2.7 million, one Android phone and two Tecno mobile phones.
The suspects and exhibits were subsequently handed over to the 17 Brigade Provost Group for further investigation.
The arrests came as troops intensified patrols and stop-and-search operations across several routes in Faskari, Jibia and surrounding areas to restrict the movement of terrorists and kidnappers.
The Army said the security situation remained calm but unpredictable, with troops maintaining satisfactory morale and fighting efficiency.
The alleged roles of the arrested suspects remain subject to investigation and do not, at this stage, constitute a judicial determination of guilt.
