ECOWAS Startup Awards: 60 West African Innovators Converge On Abuja For Regional Showcase

Home-grown entrepreneurs are increasingly shaping the next phase of West Africa’s digital economy, and Abuja will this week become a meeting point for some of the region’s most promising innovators.
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is bringing together 60 startups from its 12 member states for the second edition of the ECOWAS Startup Awards, with activities running from 21 to 30 September 2026.
The programme opens with virtual masterclasses and startup clinics from 21-25 September, followed by physical activities in Abuja from 28-30 September, including pitching competitions, exhibitions, investor deal rooms and the regional finals.
The startups will showcase solutions in FinTech, HealthTech, AgriTech and Food Systems, EdTech, CleanTech/Climate Innovation, and Tourism, Hospitality and TravelTech.
Beyond recognition, the initiative is designed to connect founders with investors, policymakers, and partners while supporting regional market access and business growth.
The top three winners will receive US$30,000, US$20,000 and US$15,000 respectively, while all selected startups are expected to benefit from regional visibility, investor access, mentorship and a six-month acceleration programme.
The awards are convened by the ECOWAS Commission’s Directorate of Private Sector and Industry and hosted in Abuja.
