ANFPU Backs NSC Reforms, Calls For Unified Players’ Representation
The absence of a universally recognised players’ union remains a key gap in Nigerian football governance, and the All Nigeria Football Players Union (ANFPU) says the current reform process offers an opportunity to address it.
The All Nigeria Football Players Union (ANFPU) has backed the football reform process led by the National Sports Commission (NSC), while calling for a credible and inclusive structure to represent Nigerian footballers.
In a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Olisa Onuchukwu, the union said there is currently no players’ union recognised by both FIFA and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
ANFPU said the ongoing engagements involving the NSC, FIFA, CAF, NFF and other stakeholders provide an opportunity to resolve longstanding disagreements over players’ representation and establish a legitimate voice for footballers.
It stressed that players’ welfare, rights, career development and effective representation should remain central to the reform agenda.
The union urged current and former players, administrators and other stakeholders to prioritise constructive dialogue and the long-term development of Nigerian football.
ANFPU also expressed readiness to work with the NSC, FIFA, CAF, NFF and other stakeholders towards a stronger and more inclusive football system.
