Otu Reshuffles Cabinet, Keeps Power Commissioner As Cross River Shifts Focus To Performance
As governments edge closer to another election cycle, cabinet reshuffles often signal a renewed push to improve performance and deliver on campaign promises.
That was the message from Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, who on Tuesday announced changes to his cabinet while retaining Prince Eka Williams as Commissioner for Power and Energy.
The reshuffle saw Dr Erasmus Ekpang moved from the Ministry of Information to the Ministry of Lands, while Pastor Cobham Ekpenyong was redeployed from the Ministry of Transport to head the Ministry of Information.
Several other commissioners also retained their portfolios, reflecting what the governor described as confidence in their performance.
Speaking during an emergency State Executive Council meeting in Calabar, Governor Otu said the exercise was a strategic move to strengthen governance, align ministries with evolving priorities, and accelerate the implementation of his administration’s “People First” agenda.
He urged commissioners to prioritise results over politics, insisting that citizens would judge the administration by improved infrastructure, healthcare, education, job creation and better living standards rather than campaign rhetoric.
The Governor also called for stronger collaboration among ministries to ensure efficient and accountable service delivery.
Council members welcomed the reshuffle, describing it as a timely step towards consolidating the administration’s achievements and driving development across Cross River State.
