Oran 2026: Nigeria Archery Team In High Spirits As African Championships Begin With Official Practice
Nigeria’s growing rise in African archery will face another major test this week as Team Nigeria begins its campaign at the 15th African Archery Championships in Oran, Algeria, with confidence high after a string of recent continental successes.
The 25-member delegation, led by Nigeria Archery Federation (NAFED) President Mohammed Baba Abdullahi, arrived in Oran ahead of the July 21-26 championship and is competing across compound, recurve and barebow events.
First Vice President of NAFED and Chairman of its Marketing Committee, Ambassador Augustine Chigbolu, said the athletes are in high spirits and fully prepared to challenge for medals, expressing confidence that the team will build on Nigeria’s impressive performances at recent African championships.
Beyond the competition, Chigbolu urged corporate organisations to invest in archery, saying sustained sponsorship is crucial to the sport’s continued growth.
He also commended SBS Nigeria for sponsoring Team Nigeria’s jerseys and tracksuits, describing the support as a major boost to the team’s campaign.
Nigeria heads into the tournament with momentum after winning medals in Pretoria (2022) and Tunisia (2023), before securing gold medals at the 2025 African Championships and Africa’s inaugural Run Archery Tournament in Abidjan.
