Border Crackdown: Enugu Police Arrest 25-Year-Old With Concealed Gun
Efforts to curb the movement of illegal firearms across state boundaries have yielded another result in Enugu, where police operatives arrested a 25-year-old man allegedly carrying a concealed locally made pistol.
The Enugu State Police Command said operatives of its Distress Response Squad arrested Ogbonna Nnaji during a stop-and-search operation at Ugwuoba in Oji River Local Government Area, near the Enugu-Anambra boundary, in early July 2026.
Police said Nnaji was travelling in a commuter Toyota Sienna from Ekwulobia, Anambra State, to Enugu when officers discovered a concealed locally made double-barrel pistol in his possession.
The Command said investigations were ongoing to establish the source of the firearm and determine whether the suspect was linked to other criminal activities before his arraignment in court.
The arrest came barely four days after the same squad intercepted another suspect travelling in a tricycle and recovered a firearm during a border security operation on 28 June.
Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives for their vigilance and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and tighter border security.
He also urged residents to remain security conscious and provide credible information to support efforts to combat crime across the state.
