Troops Strike Illegal Oil Refining Site In Rivers Forest, Recover Stolen Crude
Nigeria’s sustained crackdown on crude oil theft has recorded another breakthrough as troops dismantled a suspected illegal refining site hidden inside the Orashi National Forest in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The operation was carried out by troops of the 103 Battalion (Mechanised), alongside personnel of the 5 Battalion and 16 Brigade Garrison, during a clearance operation in the forest.
Security sources said the troops discovered equipment and materials allegedly used for illegal crude oil refining, including large and small oven drums, coolants, about 400 metres of galvanised pipe and two sacks containing approximately 100 litres of suspected stolen crude oil.
The recovered items were handled in line with operational procedures governing the ongoing campaign against crude oil theft.
The military operation forms part of sustained efforts to dismantle illegal refining camps, disrupt oil theft networks and protect critical oil and gas infrastructure across the Niger Delta.
