Economic empowerment is proving to be one of the most effective ways to break the cycle of poverty, and Transcorp Hilton Abuja is reinforcing that belief by equipping more young women with practical skills and business support.
Transcorp Hilton Abuja, in partnership with ACE Charity, has graduated four young women under the 16th cycle of its Business Empowerment Programme for Women (BEPW), reaffirming its commitment to entrepreneurship, financial independence and sustainable livelihoods.
The beneficiaries completed six months of intensive training in fashion design, garment making and business management before receiving certificates and the sewing machines they trained with to help them establish their businesses.
Hotel Manager, Mohamed Said Khalil, described the initiative as exceptional, noting that throughout his hospitality career, he had not encountered a community-focused programme of its kind.
He urged the graduates to maximise the opportunity and create lasting impact.
Managing Director, Uzo Oshogwe, congratulated the beneficiaries for their resilience, stressing that the programme was about building successful entrepreneurs rather than simply teaching tailoring.
She encouraged them to maintain high standards, deliver quality service and support others as they grow, assuring them of continued mentorship from Transcorp Hilton Abuja and ACE Charity.
ACE Charity’s Grants and Partnership Officer, Rahina Opotu, said the programme, launched in 2017, has now empowered 60 women.
She explained that participants receive free transportation, meals, business training and startup equipment, enabling them to become self-reliant.
Speaking on behalf of the graduates, team leader Divine Favour expressed gratitude to the organisers for investing in their future, describing the programme as life-changing.
The event also featured inspiring testimonials from former beneficiaries, including fashion entrepreneur Jummai Harrison, who shared how the initiative helped her build a thriving business that now creates jobs for others.
