Ondo Police Arrest Four Suspected Robbers, Recover Illegal Firearms In Idanre
A burglary investigation in Ondo State has uncovered what police describe as a wider armed robbery operation, leading to the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of illegal firearms.
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested four suspected armed robbers and recovered two illegal firearms in Idanre, in what authorities describe as a major breakthrough in the fight against violent crime.
Police said the operation followed a complaint lodged on 15 June by a cocoa trader, who reported that burglars broke into his store in Alade-Idanre and stole a bag of cocoa valued at ₦1.25 million.
Acting on intelligence gathered during the investigation, detectives arrested four suspects believed to be members of a burglary syndicate operating in the area.
Further inquiries allegedly linked the principal suspect to an earlier incident in which he reportedly threatened a security guard at Idanre High School while armed.
A subsequent search of the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of a cut-to-size single-barrel firearm and a locally made revolver concealed on the premises.
Police said the case has been transferred to the Anti-Cultism Unit in Akure for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang still at large.
Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu urged residents, farmers and business owners to strengthen security around their homes, farms and storage facilities, stressing that policing is a shared responsibility.
He also warned criminals that the command would sustain intelligence-led operations to ensure offenders are brought to justice.
