Police Spokesperson Warns Against Spreading False Security Narratives

As misinformation increasingly shapes public perception of security operations, the Nigeria Police Force has urged citizens and media practitioners to prioritise accuracy over speculation, warning that false narratives could undermine national security efforts.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu, said he would rather maintain “operational silence” than disseminate false information about police activities.

According to the police spokesperson, many “keyboard warriors” lack an understanding of the sacrifices, tactical deployments and strategic operations undertaken daily by officers in the line of duty.

Iniedu stressed that the public also has a crucial role in safeguarding national security, urging individuals and media platforms not to become channels for the spread of subversive ideologies or dissident narratives.

He maintained that responsible information sharing remains vital to supporting the Nigeria Police Force’s efforts to protect lives and maintain national stability.
