Idris, NSA Push National Security Communication Framework To Tackle Insecurity
As Nigeria confronts evolving security threats, the Federal Government is advancing a new strategic communication framework aimed at strengthening collaboration between security agencies and the media.
Speaking at the National Security Summit in Abuja, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, and the National Security Adviser (NSA), represented by Chido Onumah, stressed that effective communication and responsible journalism are critical to winning the fight against insecurity.
The summit, organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in partnership with the Department of State Services (DSS), focused on fostering stronger ties between the media and security institutions under the theme, “Media and Security Agencies as Partners in Nation Building.”
Idris said modern threats such as terrorism, violent extremism, cybercrime and disinformation require more than military action, calling for a relationship between the media and security agencies built on trust, professionalism and mutual respect.
Representing NSA Nuhu Ribadu, Onumah disclosed that the Office of the National Security Adviser is developing a National Security Strategic Communication Framework to enhance information sharing, improve transparency and prevent misinformation that could undermine security operations.
Both officials emphasised that managing information and engaging communities are as important as military responses in addressing insecurity.
The summit ended with commitments from media and security stakeholders to deepen cooperation, strengthen verification mechanisms and sustain regular engagements in the national interest.
