Top Seeds Cruise Through As CBN Tennis Championship Heats Up In Abuja

The battle for quarter-final places at the 2026 CBN Tennis Championship is gathering momentum, with top-ranked players underlining their title credentials through dominant performances at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
In the men’s singles, top seed Canice Abua opened his campaign with a convincing 6-2, 6-4 victory over Nuhu Urenyang, while second seed Daniel Adeleye and third seed Emmanuel Micheal also progressed comfortably.
Fourth seed Lucky Danjuma joined the winners’ list after overcoming Isaac Danjuma in straight sets.
Several players were pushed harder, with Mevi Irimiya, Alpha Ahli and Joseph Jimoh surviving intense three-set battles to advance, providing some of the tournament’s most exciting moments so far.
The women’s draw also saw the favourites stamp their authority.
Top seed Khadijat Mohammed began her title quest confidently, while Bright Emmanuel-Essien, Nenrot Suwa, Mary Udofa and Etoro Bassey all secured places in the next round.
One of the standout matches came from Gloria Samuel, who fought back from a set down to defeat wildcard Jesutoyosi Adeusi 0-6, 7-5, 7-6(1) in a thrilling comeback victory.
Sixth seed Success Ogunjobi also sent a strong message to rivals with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 win over Bumi Are.
With most of the top seeds safely through and competition intensifying, attention now turns to whether the tournament favourites can maintain their dominance or if emerging challengers will shake up the race for the 2026 CBN Tennis Championship title.
