Troops Neutralise Terrorist, Rescue Kidnap Victims In Zamfara Operation
A fierce military push against banditry in Zamfara has yielded another success, with troops rescuing kidnap victims and recovering weapons, although the operation came at the painful cost of a soldier’s life.
Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have neutralised a terrorist and rescued two kidnapped victims during a successful operation along the Shinkafi–Moriki axis of Zamfara State.
The encounter occurred at Kwanar Jollof in Shinkafi Local Government Area when troops from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Jangeru acted on surveillance intelligence indicating that armed terrorists were moving through the area on motorcycles.
Military sources said the troops swiftly moved to intercept the criminals, leading to a gun battle in which one terrorist was killed and two kidnap victims were freed.
Items recovered during the operation included an AK-47 rifle, four magazines, a Baofeng communication radio, assorted charms, a bandolier, a wristwatch, ₦500 cash and two motorcycles.
However, the military recorded a casualty as one soldier was killed in action during the encounter. His remains have been evacuated to the 1 Medical Battalion Centre in Gusau.
Military authorities said efforts are ongoing to dominate the area and restrict the movement of terrorists, reaffirming their commitment to sustained operations against criminal elements across Zamfara and the wider North-West region.
