As conversations around equity and national inclusion continue to shape Nigeria’s democratic journey, the leadership of the Federal Character Commission has pledged to strengthen fairness and equal representation across the country.

The Executive Chairman of the Commission, Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, made the commitment while receiving a delegation from Social Development Action Trust led by its Chief Executive Officer, Hussain Abdu, during a courtesy visit in Abuja.

Omidiran said her vision is to build an FCC that serves every Nigerian irrespective of tribe, religion or social background, stressing that citizens must feel a sense of belonging in the country.

“I just want a Federal Character Commission that works for everyone regardless of your background, your tribe, your religion or whatever,” she said, adding that the Commission remains committed to fairness, equity and equal opportunity.

Speaking earlier, Dr Abdu described the FCC as a critical institution for promoting inclusion and democracy, while commending Omidiran’s leadership style and appointment.

He disclosed that SDA-Trust is developing a programme to deepen collaboration with the Commission through research, institutional assessment and strategic engagement.

Also speaking, Ibrahim Abdu Mairiga praised the Executive Chairman’s leadership, saying it has inspired confidence among Commissioners and staff.

The meeting highlights growing collaboration between civil society organisations and public institutions in promoting inclusive governance, accountability and national cohesion in Nigeria.
