AMGF, AHBN Boost ANHeJ Emergency Fund With Fresh ₦500,000 Support

In a move highlighting growing concern for the welfare and safety of health journalists in Nigeria, the AMG Foundation (AMGF) and the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN) have committed an additional ₦500,000 to the ANHeJ Health Emergencies and Occupational Hazards Fund.

The announcement was made on 30 April 2026 during the World Immunisation Week press conference held at the AHBN Building in Abuja.

The latest contribution represents the second tranche of support to the initiative, bringing the total donation by both organisations to ₦1 million.

The Fund was established to provide financial support for members of the Association of Nigeria Health Journalists (ANHeJ) facing health emergencies, occupational hazards, and family-related challenges.

Speaking at the event, Chair of AMGF and AHBN, Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, stressed the need for transparency, accountability, and due diligence in the management of the Fund to ensure sustainability and credibility.

He also called for the reorganisation of the Fund Management Committee for greater efficiency and urged ANHeJ to embrace digital tools, including artificial intelligence and social media platforms, to improve communication, operations, and visibility of its activities.

The renewed support is expected to strengthen the safety net for health journalists who often work under demanding and high-risk conditions while reporting critical public health issues.
