Young Minds, Big Ideas: Lagos Students Simulate UN To Drive Digital Future Of Education

In a world increasingly shaped by technology, the future of education is no longer being imagined by policymakers alone, it is being actively debated by students.

The Lagos Secondary Schools Model United Nations (LASSMUN) today convened its 7th General Assembly, bringing together students from across Lagos State’s educational districts in a dynamic simulation of the United Nations General Assembly.

Organised by the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Abuja, the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, and the Lagos State Ministry of Education, the annual conference saw students step into the roles of global ambassadors, presenting position papers, debating pressing issues, and drafting resolutions.

With the theme, “Digital Transformation of the Educational Sector as a Driver of Sustainable Development,” this year’s assembly focused on how technology can unlock inclusive growth, promote sustainability, and accelerate social progress.

Delegates engaged in robust discussions on innovative solutions, mirroring real-world UN decision-making processes.

The event not only showcased the creativity and critical thinking of young participants but also underscored the urgency of equipping future leaders with the tools to navigate a rapidly evolving world.

Dignitaries in attendance included Tutor Generals, Permanent Secretaries from all six districts, and the Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education.
