Betara Moves To Cement Legacy With NAWOJ Secretariat Pledge, Backs WINSEC 2026

In a move that underscores the growing alignment between policymakers and the media in advancing gender inclusion and institutional strength, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the FCT, Aliyu Mukhtar Betara, has pledged to personally fund and deliver a befitting National Secretariat for the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in Abuja.

Betara made the commitment while receiving a NAWOJ delegation led by its National Chairperson, Aishatu Ibrahim, during a courtesy visit to his office.

Responding to the association’s appeal for support in developing its newly secured land in Lugbe, Abuja, the lawmaker vowed to take full responsibility for the project, assuring that NAWOJ would soon have a structure worthy of its national stature.

He further disclosed plans to engage the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to secure the necessary institutional backing.

He emphasised the need for proper documentation, urging NAWOJ leadership to ensure all requirements are in place to fast-track approvals and implementation.

Beyond infrastructure, Betara also threw his weight behind the forthcoming Women in Security Summit and Awards (WINSEC) 2026, describing the initiative as timely and impactful in recognising dedication and sacrifice within Nigeria’s security landscape.

Earlier, Ibrahim noted that the visit was to formally notify the lawmaker of his nomination for an award, citing his strides in constituency development and women empowerment.

She also highlighted NAWOJ’s recent acquisition of a Certificate of Occupancy for the Lugbe site earmarked for its National Secretariat.

The engagement signals a strengthening partnership between the media and government actors, with shared goals of empowering women journalists and enhancing professional capacity.
