APC Convention Set To Test Party Unity As 8,453 Delegates Converge On Abuja

In a political climate where party cohesion often defines electoral strength, Nigeria’s ruling party is positioning its upcoming convention as a decisive show of unity and organisational discipline.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said the 8th National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will reflect the party’s democratic maturity and reinforce its commitment to national development.

Speaking at a world media briefing in Abuja, Idris described the convention, scheduled for March 27 to 28 at Eagle Square, as more than a routine gathering, but a strategic moment for reflection, consolidation, and future planning.

According to him, no fewer than 8,453 delegates drawn from across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones are expected to participate, underscoring the party’s national spread and inclusiveness.

“The convention represents our collective resolve to strengthen democratic values, deepen internal governance, and align party processes with national development priorities,” he stated.

The event, themed “Unity in Progress, Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” is also expected to reaffirm alignment with the policy direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose leadership the Minister credited for fostering inclusivity and progressive governance.

Idris assured that all logistical and security arrangements have been finalised to guarantee a smooth and credible exercise, noting that delegate movements across the country have so far been seamless and incident-free.

He also disclosed that a fully equipped media centre will be operational at the venue to ensure transparency and real-time information flow, while urging journalists to uphold professionalism and report in the national interest.

With top government officials and party stakeholders expected in attendance, the convention is widely seen as a key moment in shaping the APC’s internal leadership structure and political direction ahead of future electoral cycles.
