Tension Over Awka Stool Sparks Security Alert As Police Move To Prevent Unrest
In a climate where traditional institutions often command deep emotional loyalty, even public discourse around leadership disputes can quickly escalate into security concerns.
The Anambra State Police Command has raised the alarm over what it describes as a troubling pattern of comments and narratives trailing the report of the Panel of Enquiry on the Awka Traditional Stool, warning that such developments could threaten public peace.
In response, the Command says it has placed operatives of its Anti-Cult Unit and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awka Sector, on heightened alert to proactively contain any emerging threats.
Police authorities further disclosed that Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across the state, particularly within Awka, have intensified surveillance, intelligence gathering, and visibility patrols aimed at forestalling any breakdown of law and order.
The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, urged stakeholders and residents to exercise restraint, cautioning against inflammatory statements or actions capable of inciting unrest.
He stressed that anyone found undermining public peace would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, assuring residents that proactive measures are in place to maintain calm across the state.
